Here is it, the gif review of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. With commentary. And probably some actual notes at the end. I didn't like it. Spoilers.
Also sorry some of you saw three posts from me today already. :( I am the worst. I promise no more from me for awhile.
Honestly my first feelings about it when I heard about it
When I read spoilers and started getting intrigued by the hot mess it sounded like
My general feelings on Albus
Basically him
My general feelings on Scoripus
The Albus/Scorpius ship
The No Homo parts of this
Albus being like NOPE to Harry's gift of Lily's blanket
Draco as a dad
But Draco still being a dick in general
Ron basically being an idiot the entire play like seriously he's not that much of an idiot remember when he was an okay character
Albus kissing Hermione as Ron
Hermione being like Snape because Ron didn't love her
Any and all "Snape's a hero he's wonderful you must love him" implications
Cedric becoming a death eater because of BEING HUMILIATED????
Dumbledore's convo with Harry (some of which I did like!)
Delphi being Voldemort's daughter
Scorpius being like "Rose will love me eventually if I'm persistent"
Me at the end of this
ALSO WHERE WERE THE CHARACTERS I WANTED TO SEE GAH
So you might be asking what I did like!
Hermione still being the best person ever
Draco talking about how he envied their strong friendship and expressing himself well
The original cast (Hermione, Ron, Harry, Draco) fighting together against Delphi
Legitimately me when Harry has to listen to his parents die
So actual thoughts:
I think that this would be a much better play! I would be interested in seeing the play itself, I'm fascinated on how they would make this work. I think it would be worth watching. I am not the biggest Harry Potter fan so I feel like I wasn't the best judge of this, because I had like ... no nostalgia to speak of reading this. I did like the older cast and where they ended up. I like that Harry wasn't the perfect father because he had like zero parental figures, AND I like that they talked about that particular thing in the play. While I do think Draco is still annoying, his stuff with his son was good, and I did like his heart to heart with them later about how important friendship was and how he envied their friendship. That was good! So I actually liked all of that. I was genuinely moved by Harry listening to his parents die, like I actually shed a tear over that. I'm sure watching it would be agonizing. But I am curious about why Harry was a good parent to the other two but not Albus? I feel like Ginny was practically just a supporting role at this point, and I would've liked more from her and Ron, because Ron definitely was just ... a giant laughing stock idiot in this wtf.
Listen I do not respond well to emo teens. I get Albus is just a kid, but I still can't find it in myself to give a crap. Scorpius is also just a kid and he's a sweetie pie. Also what was up with Rose just dropping her cousin because of that? She barely had any role outside of NOPE and also being Scorpius' crush/obsession. I hate teen angst. One of the reasons I did like HP was that there was angst, but outside of the Goblet of Fire/Order of the Phoenix (granted that is when he's the same age as Albus), most of the angst HP went through was legitimate. I never felt hit over the head with it. Here I'm like oh poor rich white boy it must be so hard for you. I'll admit I'm not super sympathetic to that sooooo sorry. The Delphi thing was full out fanfic, like the bad kind of fanfic that I usually refuse to read. Silver hair and can fly without a broom and parseltongue and what the fuck guys. I hate using the word Mary Sue but then you throw a character like that at me. The only thing I liked about her was that I thought the scene where she genuinely wanted to meet her father, if it is well acted I think it'd really work. But seriously. Why.
Anyway. I guess I can see why some people would like it, but it didn't work for me on any level. I am glad some people did like it though. I want people to like things that make them happy. But I'm going to see this as bad fanfic. And there's better fanfic.
