As for recs: Girls of Paper and Fire is actually pretty good. Kinda standard YA-fantasy fare, but the main romance is between two girls (so main character is queer), and the setting is Malaysia-based (non-Western setting) (and the main character is POC). Can also count as #ownvoices and/or diverse author, too! TW: sexual assault (but it's well-handled), so be warned on that.
I literally JUST finished Dragon Age: Knight Errant for a graphic novel rec. I suspect the main character in this one will be a companion in the next game so??? Or any of the Avatar or Legend of Korra graphic novels are a pretty damn good read, too.
The Heart's Invisible Furies is one of my favorite reads from 2018, for a queer main character. Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman is great for POC leads/#ownstories/diverse author. And I would be remiss if I didn't recommend my top read from last year The Travelling Cat Chronicles for a diverse author read! (idk if poc lead counts for this since technically the lead character is... a cat... but it takes place in Japan so non-Western setting at least?)
