Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!gifreview, !lunar

So I was reminded about how much fun I had with my gif review posts of Throne of Glass and The Captive Prince series (basically I just express in gifs how I feel about things in generalized ways). I decided to do one for the Lunar Chronicles because why not. I was going to do a round up but decided I had enough to say about each. But I will be doing Cinder and Scarlet in this one and the other two at some point.

First up with Cinder!

My first reaction to Cinder herself:

MY REACTION TO HER AWFUL STEP-FAMILY THIS ENTIRE SERIES:

Don't listen to them Cinder:

My first reaction to Prince Kai:

Honestly my feeling toward their relationship in the entire series:

More on that later because it's going to come up.

But Kai's real dedication to his people:

I like royals who actually care about shit.

Poor Peony :

My first reaction to Dr. Erland:

General feeling about Iko:

I really love her okay.

And of course that bitch of all bitches Levana:

The drama at the ball:

The "reveal" of who Cinder is:

The end:

MOVING ON TO SCARLET

My first reaction to Scarlet:

I respect that, Scarlet. I like you.

My first reaction to Wolf:

My first reaction to Thorne:

But really

Frankly Cinder/Thorne:

And kind of Thorne/Iko:

Wolf's turn to the good side by the end:

How the stories started to interlock together and develop more:

Guys I'm pretty honest here, there was nothing in Scarlet that really got much of a reaction out of me. It was good in the sense it furthered the plot, but nothing really stood out to me in memory. I liked Scarlet and Wolf a LOT MORE in the later books than in this intro here. But I didn't want it unsaid that I was into the series and looking forward to the next one at this point.

For the next one:

I haaaaate that ship. I'll admit Cress flat out makes me want to scream. There are elements of her I like, but overall I just can't stand her POV. I was reading that book in Scotland and my poor friend heard me go on an epic rant about how she could be such a great character if she didn't talk about Thorne 24/7. She's the most egregious of the forced romances. I still maintain Cinder and Thorne have the best chemistry for the two of them. I mean she even saves him in the very end, instead of Kai being the damsel. I like how they are based in true friendship. Romances built off friendship is like MY BREAD AND BUTTER.

You know, I'd totally ship Cinder and Thorne. They're snarky! They banter! They become friends in arms! There's excitement there that isn't present with the ever-diplomatic Kai.

That's a show not tell example of a ship! Like you believe their connection, their friendship, it's totally more real than the other two.

I sense you have strong feelings about this.

Hhaahhaa I really do. It's kind of like Maas, who wrote a second series based on Beauty and the Beast called A Court of Thorns and Roses. I found myself liking it despite the first person, the main woman is pretty cool, but I didn't like the love connection there either. But it's ~canon~ so I just sighed and accepted it lol.

I've gotten back to reading more lately, which is a good thing, but it's really made me come to appreciate how rare those books are that fire on all cylinders. Or maybe I'm just pickier these days.

Me too! I'm at 29 books this year, I put my goodreads challenge at 60 and I'm pretty sure I'll make it. I'm reading a variety, a lot of fantasy, some science fiction, and now mystery novels and historical fiction. On the whole I've been pretty laid back about what I'm reading, because it's been awhile and I didn't have high expectations. There were only like one or two I went UGH THIS IS NOT VERY GOOD.

Like The Girl On The Train. Everyone is saying it's like the best book ever and I'm like the fuck do you not read good books is that why.

I feel like that for a lot of books! I read it and go online to look for reviews that will rage with me, and then get totally baffled at the glowing reviews.

People called it the next Gone Girl and I'm like no, you clearly missed the point of GG. Amy might've been nuts but she was brilliant and terrifying and fun as hell to read (also horrifying as hell to read). There were other good female chars in the book too. The twist was fun. Girl on the Train all three leading ladies are weak, desperate for male attention, and whiny. I'm like *awkward uncomfortable shuffling* whenever reading their voices.

Oh god I hate that. Worse is when I just want to smack them over the head. I need my POV characters to be likable, okay?
